Why no outcry over 'sanctuary cities'?
There has been a lot of coverage regarding Kim Davis who has been jailed in Kentucky over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Ms. Davis has in fact chosen not to follow federal law due to her religious beliefs. I happen to agree with several opinion writers to Your Views that Ms. Davis must follow the law or step down.
What I don't see from these same opinion writers is outcry in seeking federal law be followed regarding "sanctuary cities," which clearly is in violation of federal immigration law. How about following federal laws regarding state legalization of marijuana use? If you support Ms. Davis' incarceration or her needing to step down then certainly there is agreement that the mayor of San Francisco who rejects federal immigration law and allows illegals, including illegals with criminal pasts to freely reside in his city and the governors of those states who allow marijuana use should also step down. What about our president and his Justice Department not choosing to enforce these federal laws? Shouldn't they also be held to the same standards as Ms. Davis?
You can't pick and choose what laws to follow as a representative of "the people." The result of such behavior is anarchy.
