Oktoberfest opens 11-day run in Glendale Heights

A little taste of Munich arrived Friday in Glendale Heights' Camera Park as the village's fourth annual Oktoberfest celebration got under way with German food, beer, pastries and plenty of "oompah" music.

The 11-day festival, which continues through Sept. 20, also features a pumpkin patch, plant sale and plenty of vendors selling German products, organizers said.

The celebration runs from noon to midnight Saturdays, noon to 10 p.m. Sundays, 5 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 5 p.m. to midnight Fridays.

Entertainment this weekend includes performances Saturday by Alpine Thunder at noon; The Talisman Band at 3 p.m.; and The German Band at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the lineup includes The Amazing Mike at noon; The Ed Wagner Brass Band at 2 p.m.; The Elmhurst College Jazz Band at 6 p.m.; and Alpine Thunder at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults after 4 p.m. and always free for kids.
