Public works open house

The Vernon Hills public works department will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at its facility 490 Greenleaf Drive, Vernon Hills. Employees from the fleet, forestry, streets and other divisions will be on hand to answer questions about various pieces of equipment and the skills required to maintain the village. Exhibits and activities, "Touch a Truck," food and giveaways also are part of the event. Also featured are Pilot Pete and a helicopter from the Clarke mosquito control company, Lake County public works personnel and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County. Visit http://www.vernonhills.org/.
