Four festivals to catch on their final day

Seize what's left of Labor Day weekend at these suburban festivals today.

Buffalo Grove Days

Today features a special carnival for residents with disabilities from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with appearances by Chicago Wolves mascot Skates, Staley Da Chicago Bear and Tommy Hawk from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The rest of the festival will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature a carnival, arts and crafts fair, business fair and the Rotary Rubber Duck Race at 1:30 p.m.

Septemberfest

The signature Schaumburg free end-of-summer festival kicks off at 8 a.m. with the Chick-fil-A 5K Schaumburg Run & Walk, followed at 8:45 a.m. by a kids 1K run. The fest's huge parade starts at 10 a.m. at Summit Drive and Wise Road and marches to the festival grounds at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court.

The music will be closed out by a pair of high-energy cover bands. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Rod Tuffcurls & The Bench Press will play takes on songs by The Beatles to Madonna, Queen to Miley Cyrus, even Wilson Phillips to Dave Matthews.

The final performers will be 7th heaven, known for their "30 Songs In 30 Minutes" '70s and '80s music medley.

Folk music, storytelling fest

The second and final day of the 39th annual Fox Valley Folk Music & Storytelling Festival features 14 musicians and bands and seven hours of storytelling in Island Park, 2 E. State St., Geneva.

The event also includes kids' activities and arts and crafts. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and the festival finale will happen on the main stage at 6 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for teens and free for kids 12 and younger.

Naperville Last Fling

The last day of this year's Last Fling will start at 10 a.m. and wrap up at 6 p.m. The free fest features carnival rides, bed races, dunk tank, rib cook-off and business expo.

A new 5K race will start after the Fling Mile at 8:45 a.m. Special guest Toma Dobrosavljevic, a winner of NBC's "The Biggest Loser," will be at the official race after party. For the first three days of the fest, tickets for the main stage acts ranged from $10-$30, but today's shows are free. At noon Jimi Hendrix cover band Axis will play, followed by Rolling Stones cover band Tumbling Dice at 1:45 p.m. Closing out the weekend's music will be Pink Floyd cover band In The Flesh at 3:30 p.m.
