Hersey makes progress at Jacobs Invite

Hersey's girls volleyball team was tested at the Jacobs Invite on Saturday.

And that's exactly what Huskies veteran coach Nancy Lill wanted as she watched her young Huskies go 2-3 in the tournament.

"We have a very young group this season and gained invaluable experience this weekend," said Lill, whose team is 3-4 overall. "Playing tough competition was great for us."

Liz Fuerst and Katie Rozanski were named to the all-tourney team.

Hersey defeated Barrington (25-23, 25-21) and Wheaton North (19-25, 25-17 15-13) and fell to tourney champion Cary Grove (5-1), Dundee-Crown (6-2) and Crystal Lake Central.

Senior Liz Fuerst put down 52 kills to lead the Huskies' attack followed by classmate Katie Rozanski (28). They were named to the all-tourney team.

Sophomore Emma Frankiewicz led the defending Mid-Suburban League champs with 65 digs and 8 aces while junior Maggie Reisel (48 assists) and sophomore Emma Strozewski (54 assists) set the offense. Junior Zoe Strozewski led with 11 blocks.

Barrington (2-5), which went 1-4 in the invite, was led by Ana Zawisza (10 aces, 60 assists), Gabby Morris (20 kills) and Megan Talbot (15 kills, 12 blocks). Zawisza and Morris were all-tourney selections.
