Forest preserve opens campground in Northbrook

Camp Dan Beard in Northbrook has opened for the Labor Day holiday weekend, the final campsite of five opened this summer by Forest Preserves of Cook County. The camp, at 200 Portwine Road, is accepting reservations for this weekend.

Camp Dan Beard features new cabins for group and family use, primitive group camp sites, picnic shelter, a central restroom, renovated Baity Cabin for indoor programs or dining and is located within walking distance to the Des Plaines River trail and short drive to River Trail Nature Center.

The new campgrounds, which include Camp Reinberg in Palatine, have attracted more than 4,000 campers so far. Information on reservations is at www.fpdcc.com/camping, or call 855-YES-CAMP during the district's office hours.
