Gliniewicz recognized by state officials
State lawmakers held a moment of silence for slain Fox Lake Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz today as the search for suspects in the killing continues more than 200 miles away.
"The tragic event has devastated one of our close communities," state Rep. Barbara Wheeler, a Crystal Lake Republican, said on the Illinois House floor.
"It has closed the schools and many of the businesses while the manhunt continues for the murderers of G.I. Joe," she said, using a nickname for Gliniewicz.
Police are searching for three suspects in the case and have blanketed the area for more than 24 hours looking for them.
"I ask for your prayers, not only for the fallen Lt. Joe and his family, but the entire community that's affected," Wheeler said.
The brief moment of silence quieted the typically raucous Illinois House chamber hours before a day that's expected to be among its most contentious of the year.
