Food for Fines Comes to the Library in September

The Northbrook Public Library has an easy way to eliminate your overdue fines this September: donate food items to benefit those in need.

Food for Fines runs from September 1 through September 30. During that time, library patrons can donate nonperishable food items to waive their late fees. One food item waives the overdue fine on one library item, whether it is a book, movie, CD, or other material. All food donations will be given to the Northfield Township Food Pantry, which distributes food to needy residents of Northfield Township. The Library will also accept food donations from patrons who don't have overdue fines but would like to support the food drive.

Anyone planning to donate food items to the Library during Food for Fines is asked to note the following:

• Cans, plastic, and boxes only; no food in glass containers, please.

• No expired food; please check the expiration date before donating.

• No perishable food.

• No food for animals.

• No items with damaged packaging.

• No bottled water or multipack items.

• Food for Fines does not apply to fines owed due to lost or damaged materials.

Previously, the Library had run Food for Fines in December for just over a week, and the number of items patrons needed to waive their fines was dependent upon the amount of money they owed. This year, the Library has extended the donation period, and has made the fine elimination process much simpler. The Library hopes this year's month-long Food for Fines drive will be a big success.

The Northbrook Public Library is located at 1201 Cedar Lane. For more information on Food for Fines, please visit our Circulation Desk on the first floor or call 847-272-6224.
