Girls volleyball: Lahr, Demo lead a Lakes win
McKenna Lahr pounded 11 kills, and Maddie Demo delivered 27 assists, as Lakes' girls volleyball team beat Zion-Benton 25-21, 25-14 Wednesday night.
The Eagles (2-0) also received 6 kills apiece from Megan Behrendt (9 digs) and Katie Billetdeaux. Izzy Huntington chipped in 3 kills, and Toyin Jackson had 6 digs for Lakes.
Grant d. Waukegan: Kate Kiser served 9 of 10 with 2 aces and set 35 of 36 with 18 assists, as Grant won 25-16, 25-19.
Carlee Holland also delivered a pair of aces for the winners. Grant received 5 kills from Emily Bringer and four apiece from Taylor Drake and Hannah Johnson.
Glenbrook North d. Warren: The Blue Devils fell 29-27, 25-19 in their season opener.
Jenna Walczak had 9 kills and 8 digs for Warren, while Nicole Berzin lofted 16 assists. The Blue Devils also received 3 kills from Kim Hengesh.
Maine East d. Vernon Hills: The Cougars lost their season opener 25-16, 25-18, despite sophomore Taylor Harte's 6 kills and 8 digs.
Sophomore Caralynn Orbell dished out 15 assists for Vernon Hills.
