Keep tragic news in perspective
Each morning, before I make my first cup of coffee, I turn on my television set to get overnight news. All commercial channels, CBS, NBC, and ABC start their programs with highlights of recently past as well as ongoing events.
Despite revelations of horrific and tragic occurrences all are laughing, joking, and just having fun immediately prior to the discussion of life-losing incidents by bulging panels of supposed journalists, each of whom present their "newsworthy" specialties.
I'm reminded of Joseph N. Welch, chief counsel for the United States Army during the Army vs. McCarthy hearings in 1954. During the hearing, becoming totally exasperated, he said to McCarthy, "You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"
Breaking news! Have you no decency, sirs?
