Hip surgery sidelines Hawks' Danault for 4 months

Winger Phillip Danault, who was expected to have a shot at making the Blackhawks roster next season, underwent hip surgery Monday to repair a torn labrum.

Blackhawks head team physician Dr. Michael Terry said Danault will be out of hockey-related activities for about four months.

The 6-foot, 201-pound Danault spent almost all of the last two seasons playing in Rockford. He had 19 goals and 45 assists in 142 games. The 22-year-old Danault also played in two games with the Hawks early last season.

• The Hawks came to terms with defenseman Nolan Valleau on a two-year contract Tuesday. The 22-year-old Valleau played for Bowling Green last season and led the team in assists with 17. He was a member of the Chicago Steel during the 2012-13 season.
