St. Charles Deputy Police Chief Steve Huffman to retire

Steven Huffman, deputy chief of administration in the St. Charles Police Department, has announced he will retire effective Aug. 21, after serving in the department for nearly 22 years. Huffman has accepted the position as police chief for the village of Antioch.

Huffman started with the St. Charles Police Department in 1993 as a patrol officer. He rose through the ranks, holding positions of detective sergeant in charge of investigations, deputy chief of operations, deputy chief of administration and interim chief of police. Prior to joining the department, Huffman was an aviation mechanic with the U.S. Marine Corps. Huffman holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University.

Deputy Chief Huffman was instrumental in revising and implementing the city's liquor code, and served on the team that successfully earned the St. Charles Police Department its eighth national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

"Steve's knowledge and experience in law enforcement and commitment to public safety resulted in quality relationships within the community and the city organization," said St. Charles Police Chief Jim Keegan. "I wish Chief Huffman well in his future endeavors and thank him for his service to our community, the police department and the citizens of St. Charles."
