Chief confirms investigation at home of Blackhawks' Kane

Meeting several reporters in front of his Hamburg, New York, police station Friday morning, Chief Gregory Wickett confirmed that his department is investigating something that occurred at Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane's off-season home in upstate New York.

Wickett's statement was brief and to the point.

"At this time, we are gathering information and awaiting forensic testing results," Wickett said. "We will have no further comment on this investigation at this time."

Thursday, the Buffalo News, citing anonymous police sources, reported police are investigating a complaint of sexual assault from a woman Kane met in a bar either late Saturday or early Sunday. Wickett on Friday did not confirm any details of the claim or whether Kane himself was involved.

Kane has not been charged with a crime.

Wickett said he would take no further questions, although reporters did ask if more information would follow soon.

"I think you are wasting your time, frankly," Wickett said.

The woman, according to Buffalo News sources, went to a hospital where she was tested for evidence of a sexual assault.

Kane's agent, Pat Brisson, had no comment.

Kane is scheduled to have his day with the Stanley Cup on Saturday. Brandon Faber, a Blackhawks spokesman, said he wasn't sure of "the status at this point."

The Cup was with Hawks senior adviser Scotty Bowman in his upstate New York home on Friday.

Reports from the Buffalo News and social media put Kane in the Buffalo area last weekend at numerous locations.

One man on Twitter said that Kane told him "he was too bombed for a pic, so of course I snapchatted a pic of him anyway." Snapchat is a site where photos appear for just a few seconds before disappearing.

Kane's eight-year, $84 million contract is set to kick in when the 2015-16 season gets underway. Training camp in South Bend, Indiana, begins on Sept. 18.
