Tim Jennings hopes to shift focus from his January arrest

BOURBONNAIS - Tim Jennings returned to practice Friday after a one-day absence to resolve his January arrest on suspicion of DUI that resulted in a reckless driving plea.

The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback has spoken about the incident with coach John Fox and G.M. Ryan Pace and hopes to shift his focus to the field.

"I made them aware of what was going on," Jennings said. "It went well. We got everything resolved and we're going to move forward."

It's uncertain whether Jennings will be one of the starting cornerbacks when the season starts, or if he fits better as the nickel corner covering slot receivers.

"It's just a different skill set," Fox said. "Some of it carries over from both spots because it is coverage, but there's a little bit more going on (in the slot). You're replacing a linebacker, basically, when you're going in the middle of the defense, so mentally you have to be pretty sharp. With that skill set on the outside, you're pretty much isolated (on a wide receiver), so we'll look at (Jennings in) both positions."

The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Jennings has experience at both positions, but went to the Pro Bowl after the 2012 and '13 seasons playing outside, where he picked off a total of 13 passes. The 10th-year veteran didn't play nearly as well last year, when he failed to get an interception for the first time in seven years, and the preference in Vic Fangio's defense is for taller corners.

Tempers flare:

A brief skirmish erupted during Friday's practice when 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive end Jarvis Jenkins flung 5-foot-6, 199-pound running back Jacquizz Rodgers to the ground during an 11-on-11 scrimmage.

Offensive linemen Kyle Long, among others, took exception and some brief pushing and shoving ensued, mostly between Jenkins and Long, but no punches were thrown.

"This is a combative game played by combative people, and you try to discourage it, but I'm sure this won't be the last one, I can pretty much guarantee that," coach John Fox said. "You just do your best to keep your guys healthy."

Health beat:

Eddie Goldman left practice early "with some dehydration," according to coach John Fox. Shortly afterward, Goldman said he was fine.

Last year's No. 1 pick, cornerback Kyle Fuller, was attended to by trainers and missed part of practice.

"He tweaked his ankle," Fox said. "I don't know the extent of it, but we did back off of him some in the late part of practice."

Tight end Dante Rosario had an excused absence for personal reasons and missed Friday's practice.

Guarded condition:

Undrafted rookie guard Tyler Moore was signed to a three-year contract Friday. He had 14 career starts at Florida (six at right guard, two at left guard, five at right tackle and one at left tackle) the past two seasons with the Gators after spending the 2011 season at Nebraska, where he appeared in nine games with four starts along the offensive line.
