Comcast hiring 200 to expand customer support

Comcast said it will be hiring nearly 200 new employees this year as the cable TV and Internet supplier beefs up its customer support operations in the metropolitan Chicago area.

The new hires will join 290 current employees to create two new "centers of excellence" at Comcast's Elmhurst facility, the company said in a news release. The Technician Support Center and Technician Logistics Center will handle scheduling, monitoring and support for field technicians who handle installations and service visits to homes and businesses. The centers will serve customers in the Chicago area, Illinois and other Midwest and Southeast states.

"Comcast is continuing to invest in technologies, processes and, most importantly, employees to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience," said John Crowley, Comcast's regional senior vice president. "The Technician Support and Technician Logistics centers will support Comcast's technical operations staff in the field and help make sure technicians are on time for customer visits and that installations and repairs are done right."

Once complete, the Elmhurst facility will house nearly 800 employees and, in addition to the Technician Support and Technician Logistics centers, will also house technical operations, engineering, video production, sales, community relations, human resources and other functions.

Local and county leaders were on hand with Comcast officials Wednesday in Elmhurst to make the announcement. "With four major facilities and more than 2,500 employees in DuPage County, Comcast plays a major role in our local economy," said DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin.

John Quigley, president and CEO of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry. added that Comcast's expansion of the Elmhurst facility "is not only helping to promote our economy, it's making a commitment to providing excellent service to residents in our area and throughout Illinois."
