Boomers fall to Rascals
The Schaumburg Boomers were victimized by the longball in a 10-3 loss to the River City Rascals on Tuesday night.
River City drilled four homers in the contest, accounting for seven of the 10 runs. The first homer came with two outs in a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth. Justin Vasquez homered for the Boomers in the top of the fifth to tie the score. The homer marked the first of the year for Vasquez. River City responded by scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away, hitting a pair of homers in the frame. Alexi Colon hit a two-run homer in the eighth to account for the final. Peter Gehle suffered the loss, working five innings. Schaumburg managed just six hits in the defeat, with two coming from Colon.
The Boomers (23-32) return to action in the middle game of the series on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Brett Mabry (3-2, 3.33) starts for Schaumburg against RHP Tim Koons (7-0, 3.72).
