Roselle man charged with attempted armed robbery
A Roselle man who prosecutors say attempted to rob a Hoffman Estates woman at knife point was ordered held on $200,000 bail Friday.
Leon Bailey, 44, is charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint. If convicted he faces up to 15 years in prison.
Prosecutor say Bailey followed the woman into the vestibule of her apartment building in the 2100 block of Hassell Road about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. While holding a knife, he yelled at the woman and demanded money, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Anisa Jordan.
The woman told him she had no money and fled with the defendant in pursuit, Jordan said. An unidentified person called police to report a man with a knife chasing someone, she said.
The woman was uninjured.
Police combing the area in the wake of the report found Bailey, of 545 Hampton Lane. He did not get any money or property, authorities said.
Bailey's background includes DUI convictions from 1998 and 1992, Jordan said.
He next appears in court on July 29.
