Confederate flag OK at Volo museum

In the June 27 Daily Herald we learn that the Volo Auto Museum will continue to display a General Lee Dodge Charger car made for "The Dukes of Hazard" TV show despite the Confederate flag painted on its roof.

I myself have no problem with this. You see, when I was in third grade at the Robert E. Lee Grade School in Petersburg, Virginia, we had an assembly one day in the gym where both the Confederate flag and the Stars and Stripes hung from the ceiling. We third graders were seated on the floor in front of the grandstand, and the principal, a nice gray-haired lady, came down to us and said, "Now you kids may not know whose birthday we are celebrating today, but I want you to know that after Jesus Christ, Robert E. Lee was the greatest man that ever lived." And of course, Robert E. Lee fought for the Confederate flag.

So I can't get upset about the General Lee car with its Confederate flag continuing to be displayed at the Volo Auto Museum. For me, it's not a question of racism but simply one of the history of our country and our Southern heritage. Please forgive me.
