Boomers fall to Aviators 4-3 in extras

The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers rallied from down 3-0 to force extra innings but dropped a 4-3 contest to the Rockford Aviators in 10 in the opener of a 3-game series on Friday night.

Schaumburg struggled to mount any offense against Rockford until late in the game. Starter Raul Jacobsen, making his pro debut, kept Rockford at bay until the fifth when the Aviators scored 3 times. The Boomers began to rally against the Rockford bullpen, scoring twice in the eighth on a Craig Massey RBI single and a double from Mike Schulze. Pinch hitter Sam Lind tied the game in the ninth with an RBI single, but Rockford won in the 10th.

The Boomers have just 2 hits entering the seventh but finished with 10 in the contest. Dean and Alexi Colon collected 2 each. Jacobsen worked 4.2 innings in his debut, allowing three runs. Zach Wendorf tossed 3.1 solid frames, striking out five. Hideyoshi Otake took the loss.

The Boomers (14-17) continue the series with the West Division leaders on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Eddie Cody (4-0) takes the ball for the Boomers opposite LHP Payton Baskette.
