Bloomingdale museum opens quilt, chair exhibits
Two new exhibits at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum showcase the talents of regional artists.
The Professional Art Quilters Alliance's Midwest Art Quilt Challenge show consists of 25 quilts that demonstrate a wide range of styles and techniques. The "Chairish" exhibit displays artistically painted chairs and paintings by Geneva artist Geri Greenman, a local educator and author.
Both exhibits run Saturday, June 27, through Saturday, Aug. 1, at the museum, 108 S. Third St., Bloomingdale. An artists reception will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at the museum. Regular hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
The challenge to the quilters was to create an 18-inch-by-18-inch quilt using the theme "The Midwest." To meet the definition of a "quilt," each piece includes three layers of fabric held together by stitching. The quilters from the Professional Art Quilters Alliance are a group of about 60 from Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. They meet monthly in Naperville.
Museum admission is $1 for adults and children 12 and older; $2 for nonresidents; and 50 cents for seniors. For information, call (630) 339-3570 or visit bloomingdaleparks.org.
