No injuries in small fire at Weber plant in Palatine
No injuries were reported after a small fire broke out Monday at the Weber-Stephens manufacturing warehouse in Palatine, authorities said.
The Palatine Fire Department responded to the facility, 250 S. Hicks Road, at 8:37 a.m. after a fire alarm was activated. The first crews to arrive reported light smoke coming from the north side of the warehouse, according to the fire department.
All employees evacuated safely, and once power was shut down to the affected area of the building, the fire was quickly extinguished and isolated to a single piece of manufacturing equipment, fire officials said.
Damage estimates were not available, but the business was able to reopen Monday. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire was fought by 31 firefighters, staffing four engines, three ladder trucks, one rescue squad and three ambulances which responded to the scene, along with three command officers and one fire investigator, officials said. Units from the Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows fire departments were among the initial responders to the scene as part of an automatic aid agreement. Palatine police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
