Schaumburg Boomers lose 4-1

MARION, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers had a ninth-inning rally but could not overcome the Southern Illinois Miners in a 4-1 loss on Wednesday night.

Both pitchers were battling throughout. Edwin Carl did not allow a hit for the Boomers until the fourth. Schaumburg had chances in the first and third but could not push across a run. Southern Illinois broke through in the bottom of the sixth, using 4 singles to open a 4-0 lead. Schaumburg rallied in the ninth. Alexi Colon drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double from Garrett Gordon. The Boomers brought the tying run to the plate but could do no further damage.

Carl suffered the loss after allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Evan Boyd threw the final 2 innings. The Boomers were limited to 5 hits, but Michael Valadez reached three times with a walk and 2 hit by pitches.

The Boomers (7-11) conclude the brief three-game road series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Anthony Gomez (0-3, 9.60) makes the start for Schaumburg. The Boomers return home Friday night.
