Boomers bring end to losing streak

MARION, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers snapped a franchise-record, six-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners on the road Tuesday night, riding the arm of Eddie Cody.

Cody tossed 7 shutout innings to improve to 3-0. He struck out five and scattered 6 hits, not allowing a runner to reach second base until the sixth. Jordan Dean handed Schaumburg a 2-0 lead with a two-out, 2-run single in the third. Newcomer Sam Lind added a two-out RBI single in the fifth.

Craig Massey had 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Dean and Lind each finished with a pair of hits as the Boomers posted 9 in the win. The combination of Brandon Bargas and Hideyoshi Otake finished off the win, Otake earning his first save. Otake struck out two and became the fourth pitcher to earn a save this season.

The Boomers (7-10) continue the three-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Edwin Carl (0-1, 4.77) will start for Schaumburg opposite lefty Rick Teasley (2-1, 4.50). The Boomers return home Friday night.
