Library Announces Grand Opening June 13 and 14

On June 13 and 14, the Northbrook Public Library will celebrate the completion of its renovation and expansion project with an open house-style Grand Opening event. From 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 13 and 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, June 14, all area residents are invited to tour the Library's newly renovated spaces and enjoy a weekend of entertainment.

The Grand Opening celebration will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday at 10am. Following the ceremony, the Library will be bustling with live performances, tours of the new spaces, movie trailer screenings, and even cake pops from Sunset Foods, for the rest of the weekend.

"We are excited to showcase all the hard work that has gone into this project," said Executive Director Kate Hall. "We can't wait for the community to join us for all of our treasured programs, as well as the new programs we'll be offering, in the new spaces."

On Saturday, June 13, Grand Opening attendees can explore the updated lobby and visit with a number of local Northbrook organizations. In the new auditorium, visitors can enjoy performances from pianist Svetlana Belsky, guitarist Christopher Laughlin, and acoustic blues band The Sanctified Grumblers. Additionally, Chicago-based balloon artist Holly Nagel will perform stories and songs in the auditorium, and will create balloons for visitors throughout the day. Adults and children alike can take part in the crafts offered in the Pollak room throughout the day on Saturday.

On Sunday, June 14, the Library will host a Frozen sing-a-long, a one-act play from the Oil Lamp Theater, and a presentation from the Northbrook Historical Society. Visitors can also enjoy student music recitals and an outdoor performance by the Big Band Sound of Deerfield.

Tours of the Library's updated spaces will run on both days of the Grand Opening. Visitors are encouraged to explore the renovated auditorium, which now seats up to 225 people and boasts improved acoustics, a 4K Digital Projection system, and theatre-style seating. Grand Opening attendees will have the first opportunity to sponsor a recognition plaque for the new auditorium chairs, which can be customized to honor a loved one or show support for the Library and the arts.

Visitors are also encouraged to tour the new meeting rooms, which offer updated technology and additional space. As attendees explore the first floor, they will also be able to visit the new Friends of the Library Used Book Store.

The Library welcomes all area residents to attend the Grand Opening celebration and experience the possibilities of each revamped space firsthand.

The Northbrook Public Library is located at 1201 Cedar Lane, Northbrook, IL 60062. For more information on the Grand Opening celebration, visit www.northbrook.info/grandopening.
