Bloomingdale Garden Club plants for those in need

Bloomingdale Garden Club volunteers recently planted vegetables seeds and plants at its Giving Garden plot.

It is one of three garden plots located at the north end of Springfield Park in Bloomingdale. The two remaining plots will be planted by the Roselle Park District Garden Club and University of Illinois Extension DuPage Master Gardeners.

All produce harvested from the plots will be donated to the Bloomingdale Township Food Pantry and other local food pantries to help those in need.

More garden plots will be added in 2016 and community members may rent a space to plant, tend and harvest their produce. All community giving gardeners will be encouraged to periodically donate a portion of their produce to the on-site "Donation Station" for transport to food pantries.

For updates on the Community Giving Garden, watch for the 2015/2016 Winter/Spring Bloomingdale Park District brochure and future issues of the Bloomingdale Village Almanac.
