Liven up the landscape with bargain bulbs and native plants

Beautify the yard with flowers and shrubs from the Schaumburg Community Garden Club's 26th Annual Bargain Bulb & Native Plant Sale.

The sale will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 at the Schaumburg Park District's Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Featuring tulip bulbs from District grounds, the sale helps raise money for the Schaumburg Park Foundation.

"The bulbs are quite nice," said Dave Brooks, manager of conservation for the Schaumburg Park District. "They're assorted more or less by color, so if people want a bunch of red tulips they should be able to get those."

The sale also includes plants from club members' gardens and a variety of native plants, flowers and shrubs. Experts from the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener program also will answer questions and offer advice.

"People can get some really nice plants at a discounted price," Brooks said.
