Naperville Park District Awarded Grant for Energy Efficient Lighting

The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation recently awarded the Naperville Park District a grant in the amount of $10,667 to support energy efficient lighting upgrades in three of the District's buildings.

The project consists of replacing more than 900 existing light fixtures with LED fixtures in the Administration Building at 320 W. Jackson Ave., the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center at 305 W. Jackson Ave., and at the South Maintenance Facility, located at 3415 S. Book Rd. The lighting upgrade will save an estimated 125,780 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, resulting in annual cost savings of more than $11,000.

With the assistance of the grant and the annual cost savings, the project cost of approximately $26,600 will be paid back within one year and three months.

"We are grateful for the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation grant," said Executive Director Ray McGury. "The Naperville Park District's investment in LED lighting will save energy and generate long-term cost savings for our taxpayers."

The lighting upgrade will be completed by the end of 2015 and is one of a variety of the Naperville Park District's environmental initiatives. The 2014 Sustainability Report, available at www.napervilleparks.org, lists annual progress in the areas of purchasing, natural resources, energy use, recycling, and environmental education.
