Students offer $1,200 donation to Feed My Starving Children
Eighth-grade students at Heineman Middle School in Algonquin recently competed in "Heineman Apprentice."
In this assignment, student teams researched and presented on community organizations in hopes of winning the right to donate prize money from a jump-athon fundraiser held earlier in the year.
The two winning teams each selected Libertyville-based Feed My Starving Children as their organization.
Each team presented John Laystrom and Marilyn Maurella, two representatives from Feed My Starving Children, with a $1,200 check at an assembly April 30, for a total of $2,400.

Feed My Starving Children, started in 1987, is a nonprofit organization where volunteers hand-pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children. They send the meals to partners around the world where they are used to help orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. Visit www.fmsc.org.
