Boomers get second straight win to start season
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Schaumburg Boomers notched their second straight shutout to open the season, spoiling the home opener for the Washington Wild Things with a 1-0 victory.
The Boomers' Craig Massey scored from third on an errant pickoff throw from the Washington starting pitcher in the fifth inning.
Eddie Cody worked 5 shuout innings, allowing 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. Relievers Hideyoshi Otake, Jake Joyce, and Clark Labitan combined on the shutout.
The Boomers had 4 hits and 9 walks. Massey, Mike Schulze, and Alexi Colon all reached base three times.
The Boomers (2-0) continue the series today at 6:05 p.m., sending right-hander Edwin Carl against right-hander Ryan Bores.
