Longtime Scout earns God and Service Award
Des Plaines resident Paul Whittenhall received the God and Service Award, presented by the Rev. Francois "Co" DuToit during a recent Sunday morning worship service at First Congregational UCC of Des Plaines.
The award acknowledges distinguished volunteer service by adults in ministry to youth through service to the church and one or more of the national youth agencies - in this case, Boy Scouts.
In addition to his longtime involvement with First Congregational's Sunday school, Whittenhall has spent a total of 21 years in Scouting, both as a youth and as an adult.
The entire Whittenhall family is involved in Scouting. Paul's wife, Teena, has been a registered Boy Scouts of America member for five years as a Merit Badge counselor and as a Crew 101 committee member; son Ben is an Eagle Scout with 13 years in Scouting; and daughter Riley has been a Crew member for one year.
A "Crew" is a BSA Scouting unit that extends beyond the Troop level. Crews are coed for ages 14 to 21 and are formed on the basis of an activity or interest focus.
