Village of Schaumburg welcomes German exchange group

The Village of Schaumburg will welcome a group of German exchange visitors May 12-21 from the county of Schaumburg, Germany, as part of the village's Sister Cities Program.

Visitors include Heinz Kraschewski, mayor and village manager of the Village of Auetal; Lothar Seidel, forester in the County of Schaumburg; Detlev Mohrmann, manager of Public Health Insurance Company; Burkhard Rohrsen, controller of the Village of Rintein; and Jürgen Watermann, chairman of the Schaumburg German-American Society.

The group will participate in a variety of activities that include tours of various village departments, the Schaumburg community, St. Peter Lutheran Church and School, Spring Valley, The Trickster Art Gallery as well as a visit to the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center to view the Friendship Stone.

The Village of Schaumburg established its Sister Cities relationship with Schaumburg, Germany, more than 30 years ago. The County of Schaumburg, Germany, is a region encompassing approximately 213 square miles and is home to more than 165,000 residents.

The region is part of the state of Lower Saxony in northwestern Germany. The village became a Sister City with Schaumburg, Germany, to connect its residents with the village's heritage - as many of the settlers of this area were from that area in Germany.
