Harper's Griffin, Kloss win twice at NJCAA championships
The Harper College men's and women's track teams both produced a two-time national champion on the final day of the NJCAA Division III championships Saturday in Utica, N.Y.
Jalen Griffin, a sophomore from Larkin, won the men's 100-meter dash in 10.95, and he won the 200 dash in 21.92.
Leah Kloss, a freshman from Grayslake Central, won the women's 100 dash in 12.62. Kloss also won the 200 dash, in 25.71.
Harper's men finished as runner-up with 98 points; champion Delhi scored 198.5.
The Harper women finished third with 109 points, behind Mohawk Valley Community College (151) and Delhi (137). The Hawks produced the winning 400 relay of Samantha Soriano, Shayan Dussard, Joslyn Nicholson and Kloss (49.58).
Other point-scoring performances for Harper on Saturday included:
• Kloss placed fifth in the javelin throw.
• Dussard was third in the 100 dash in 13.06.
• Stephanie Chaires placed fourth in the 1,500 run.
• The women's 1,600 relay of Chaires, Dussard, Taylor LoCoco and Kloss placed fourth.
• Dussard took third in the high jump (1.54m).
• Eric Theis placed eighth in the 110 hurdles.
• John Majerus and Jordy Arriaga placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1,500 run.
• Arriago and Majerus placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 800 run.
• The men's 1,600 relay placed fifth.
• Brad Walls took fourth in the shot put, and teammate Laith Kanan was sixth.
