The David Adler Music and Arts Center announces registration for Summer Individual Music Instruction and registration for an extraordinary line-up of new group music classes. Registration begins May 11th.

Musicians of all ages and skill levels are invited to register for individual lessons in piano, voice, violin, cello, viola, guitar, ukelele, banjo, and mandolin. Summer lessons are arranged on flexible "pay as you play" schedule to accommodate summer vacations, and to provide opportunities to explore new instruments.

The David Adler Music and Arts Center also offers exceptional new group classes in Suzuki Basics: Violin, Cello, and in Guitar and Ukelele. Group classes are designed to develop musical ability while fostering a sense of musical community. Group classes are also a way to begin, or try-out a new instrument! The David Adler Music and Arts Center is pleased to offer the following Group Music Classes for Summer 2015:

Suzuki Basics Classes:

An Introduction to Suzuki Violin (Ages 4-6)

Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:15pm; 45 minutes; $160 for 8 Weeks: June 10 - July 29

An Introduction to Suzuki Cello (Ages 4-6)

Mondays 5:30 - 6:15pm; 45 minutes; $170 for 8 Weeks: June 15 - August 3

Suzuki Basics: Violin and Suzuki Basics: Cello will prepare families for future participation in the Adler Center's Suzuki Program. Skills are taught through fun and engaging group activities. Parents will learn about the Suzuki Philosophy and gain valuable tools to assist their child in every step of their musical journey. Tuition includes the book, Ability Development from Age 0, by S. Suzuki. Participants may take advantage of a special instrument rental package offered by Classic Violins. A parent is required to attend all Suzuki Basics classes. Select classes will be for parents only.

Suzuki Group Classes: Twinkle +

Violin: Wednesday 6:15 - 6:45pm; 30 minutes, June 10 - July 8; July 15 - August 12

Cello: Thursday 5:00 - 5:30pm; 30 minutes, June 18 - July 30, *No class July 23

Suzuki group class reinforces concepts and techniques learned in private lessons in a supportive and nurturing environment. Through games and ensemble playing, students will learn how to work together, follow a leader, adapt to new ideas and interpretations and experience the joy of making music with others. In a multi-level class, older students gain leadership experience as they act as role models for their younger peers. Beginners can be extremely motivated by seeing the older students perform.

Guitar and Ukelele Classes:

Beginner Ukelele (Ages 5-10)

Thursday 4:30 - 5pm; 30 minutes; $90 for 6 weeks: June 25 - Aug 6, *No class July 23

From traditional Hawaiian songs to familiar folk songs, learn how to play the ukulele using simple chords, notes and rhythm! The uniquely small size of the ukulele makes it the perfect instrument for children because it is much easier to hold than a guitar, it has only 4 strings, and the small neck makes it easier to grab. Bring your soprano or concert uke and come join in on the fun! Instructor recommends the Kala brand (KA-15S) soprano ukulele. Libertyville Music is offering a special ukulele package for Adler Students.

Beginner Youth Guitar - ages 8-12

Thursday 5:15 - 5:55pm; 40 minutes; $96 for 6 weeks: June 25 - Aug 6, *No class July 23

From tuning the strings to strumming chords, learn all about the basics of guitar in a fun and friendly environment! You'll learn to read chord charts, basic rhythms, and play along to songs using various strumming patterns. Bring your acoustic, nylon, or electric guitar. Amps will not be provided. No experience needed.

Guitar Ensemble Classes

Youth (Ages 8-14): Thursday 6 - 6:45pm; 45 minutes; June 25 - Aug 6 *No class July 23

Adult (Ages 15+): Thursday 7 - 8pm; 60 minutes; June 25 - Aug 6 *No class July 23

If you've been taking lessons for a while and would like to improve your playing, the best way to challenge yourself is to perform with other guitarists. When students are surrounded by others who are focused on the same goals, it creates an encouraging and stimulating environment for everyone. Guitar Ensemble is a wonderful supplement to private lessons, and is highly encouraged for all guitar players. In this class, you'll learn how to make music together in an ensemble setting under the guidance of the instructor. Think of it as an all guitar band or guitar orchestra. You'll discover that there's nothing more satisfying and rewarding than being able to make music together with your peers! This is a class you don't want to miss! Join the Adler Guitar Ensemble today!

Pre-requisite: Students must be proficient in note reading (no tablatures). Please share the most recent repertoire or etude studied when you enroll.
