Bears sign three draft picks
As has been the case in recent years, the Bears and chief contract negotiator Cliff Stein are way ahead of the NFL curve when it comes to signing their draft picks.
On Tuesday, just three days after the final day of the draft, the Bears agreed to terms with fourth-round running back Jeremy Langford, fifth-round safety Adrian Amos and sixth-round offensive lineman Tayo Fabuluge. All four players agreed to four-year contracts.
Langford's deal is expected to be for just more than $3 million in the NFL's slotting system for rookies. He was the 106th player picked overall, and last year's 106th pick, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Bruce Ellington, signed a four-year deal for $2.964 million. including a $474,428 signing bonus.
Amos' deal is for $2.512 million, according to the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson.
Fabuluge was taken 183rd overall, the same spot where the Bears drafted quarterback David Fales a year ago, and his contract is expected to be worth just more than $2.4 million. Fales' four-year contract was for $2,333,424 and included a $114,424 singing bonus.
The Bears' three-day rookie minicamp begins Friday morning at Halas Hall.
Scouting changes:
General manager Ryan Pace is continuing the job of reshaping the team's scouting department.
Marty Barrett - who spent 18 years in the Bears' scouting department, the last three as college scouting director - reportedly has been informed his expiring contract will not be renewed.
In January, Bears director of pro scouting Kevin Turks was fired, and Pace replaced him with Josh Lucas, who worked with him in New Orleans. Lucas was named director of pro personnel, overseeing the Bears' pro and college scouting departments.
Pace also released national scout Rex Hogan from his contract so that he could become the New York Jets' director of college scouting.
Another addition:
Offensive tackle Paul Cornick was claimed off waivers after he was released by the Denver Broncos last week.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Cornick played in 12 games for the Broncos last season and had six starts for then-Denver offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who has the same position on Bears coach John Fox's staff.
