CCU hosts free credit score seminar

Consumers Credit Union is hosting "Your Credit Score," a free seminar intended to provide insight into building a better credit score, Thursday, May 7, at the Holiday Inn in Gurnee. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the seminar starting at 6 p.m.

The workshop is open to the public.

"Establishing and maintaining a strong credit rating can be both confusing and challenging," CCU President Sean M. Rathjen said. "Our seminar is designed to arm those in attendance with information that will help them better manage their credit, including some common sense steps anyone can take to help improve their score.

"The workshop will also provide a better understanding of the various types of scoring models in use today, including FICO and Vantage, along with nontraditional models and bankruptcy risk scores.

"Consumers need to know how credit scores are used so they can reach their goals quicker at the lowest possible cost," Rathjen said. "For example, many people don't realize their credit score can impact the cost of auto, homeowners and renters insurance; the rate they may pay on future loans; whether or not they qualify for a loan or apartment lease, even their ability to find employment. Our workshop provides useful information that can benefit everyone attending, even those with an extensive credit profile."

"Your Credit Score" is presented by Tricia Drexel, in partnership with Balance Financial Fitness and Consumers Cooperative Association, the credit union's sponsor. Seminar topics include:

• How to build and maintain a healthy credit score

• Actively monitoring your credit score

• Understanding the differences in various credit scoring models

• How credit affects every aspect your lifestyle from homeownership to employment

The Holiday Inn is at 6161 W. Grand Ave., Gurnee
