Warrenville man charged in crash with Bartlett police truck

A 40-year-old Warrenville man has been charged in connection with a two-vehicle crash that sent a Bartlett Police Department community service officer to the hospital, authorities said Thursday.

Alberto Gallegos-Gomez, of the 29W500 block of Country Ridge Drive, is charged with driving without a valid driver's license. He also was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident and disobeying a traffic control signal.

Police say Gallegos-Gomez was driving a white 2002 Dodge Ram south on Route 59 at about 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, when he swerved into the left-turn lane to avoid hitting several vehicles that were stopped for the red light, police said.

He then disregarded the red light at the Route 59 intersection with Schick Road, and collided with a white 2009 police department pickup traveling east on Schick.

Gallegos-Gomez's vehicle rolled over from the impact and came to rest on the driver's side. He was taken by Bartlett Fire Protection District personnel to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released, authorities said.

The community service officer also was taken to an undisclosed hospital as a precaution, but later released without injuries, authorities said.

Gallegos-Gomez was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond.
