LifeSource, BCFPD to Partner for May 16 Antique Fire Truck Show and Blood Drive

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) will host a combined antique fire truck show and community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Fire Station #1, 22222 North Pepper Road, Lake Barrington.

The event, co-sponsored by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, will feature a display of vintage fire trucks and related firefighting equipment, courtesy of the Northern Illinois Fire Museum, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Guests will learn more about the fire service's rich history while enjoying a full slate of fire safety-themed activities. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and pose for photos with firefighters, and enjoy free hot dogs and refreshments.

Although fire suppression and emergency medical services are the BCFPD's primary responsibilities, District firefighters are eager to roll up their sleeves in support of the events' blood drive, which will benefit LifeSource.

"Our organization takes tremendous pride in supporting the communities we serve," says BCFPD Captain Angela Grandgeorge.

"Summer is difficult on the local blood supply because donors are vacationing or have increased family commitments," she says. "We're looking forward to helping replenish the blood supply in our area."

According to LifeSource, each unit of blood donated helps to support up to three lives.

Appointments for the blood drive are preferred, but all walk-ins are welcome. Donors can schedule their appointment by calling LifeSource at (877) 543-3768, or visiting www.lifesource.org and using the code 763A. For more information, contact LifeSource Account Manager Jean Concialdi at (847) 226-6639.

Along with hosting daily blood drives, LifeSource operates 19 community donor centers and four fixed sites with regular operating days and hours. In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification.
