Borys, Sarlitto, Jacob easily win Long Grove board race
A slate led by incumbent Trustee Stan Borys swept all three open seats on Long Grove's village board.
With all precincts reporting, Bill Jacob finished with 1,239 votes, unofficial results show. The two other candidates in the Voice of Long Grove slate came in close behind, with Michael Sarlitto getting 1,201 votes and Borys, 1,184.
On the other slate, incumbent Trustee Charlie Wachs lost his re-election bid, receiving 543 votes. Stan Razny got 525 votes, and Steve Sintetas was last with 509 votes.
Jacob attributed the decisive victory partly to the slate's frequent criticism of an unsuccessful plan to levy the village's first property tax to pay for deteriorating roads. Voters overwhelmingly rejected that tax last March.
Both sides tangled over the direction of the struggling downtown, with Borys, Sarlitto and Jacobs calling for a long-term plan before the village pumps money in. Wachs, Razny and Sintetas, by contrast, said the village should invest in new infrastructure.
Borys said he heard from disgruntled residents who said they felt isolated from the board's decisions.
"The first thing we need to do is really build a good bridge, and I'm talking about a bridge between the village and the community," he said.
