The fire crews extinguished the fire within five minutes, officials said.
Hoffman Estates bedroom fire causes $100,000 worth of damage
A fire that started in the bedroom of a Hoffman Estates house caused an estimated $100,000 in damages, but might have been worse had the door and windows in the room been open, fire officials said Sunday. Hoffman Estates Fire Battalion Chief Patrick Fortunato said one of the residents of the one-story home at 1060 Apple Street may have prevented further property damage by closing the bedroom door after opening it to discover that the room was on fire. "The bedroom door was closed and the windows were closed, so the room itself remained sealed," Fortunato said.

Cavaliers rain down 3-pointers on Bulls
The Bulls lost 99-94 at Quicken Loans Arena against the Cleveland Cavaliers. They never threatened to take the lead in the fourth quarter but could easily have turned the tables in a 5-point game with better execution. The Bulls' lapses fell into two basic categories: playing defense with the clock running down and being smarter offensively, especially during key possessions. The Bulls (46-31) remain a game ahead of Toronto for third place in the East with five left to play. If the standings stay the same, the Bulls and Cavs would be on target to meet in the second round of the playoffs. Cleveland (50-27) essentially has locked up the No. 2 seed behind Atlanta.
Cubs fortunes rise and fall at Wrigley in opener
The very new and the very old ran headfirst into one another Sunday night in the Cubs loss at Wrigley Field in an inevitable collision designed not to offend those who instinctively balk at change, but instead to further the cause of winning while bringing a crusty franchise and its occasionally intransigent fan base into the modern world.
