Blackberry Twp. roads need support

The issue of township roads in Blackberry Township has festered for many years and has finally come to a head.

In an unprecedented move that underscores this situation, Rod Feece, our well respected road Commissioner, did not resurface any roads in Blackberry Township last year. He simply did not have the money to do so. Instead he had to spend his budget for road maintenance on equipment, labor and materials.

As reported in the Daily Herald Feb. 11, there are 58 centerline road miles in Blackberry Township. Of these, there are six miles of gravel roads and 52 miles of asphalt roads.

In a good budget year of little or no snow, Rod may be able to resurface one mile of roads. Think about it, if your road was recently resurfaced, it may be 50 years before it is resurfaced again.

This can be a confusing issue, as are most issues these days. But please put your trust in the conservative elected officials of Blackberry Township that the time is now to pass a road referendum to finance our Blackberry Township Road District. There are no realistic options available. Please vote to pass this referendum on April 7.
