Snow leads to slick roads, accidents in the suburbs

Snow flurries and slick road conditions are causing accidents throughout the Chicago area, including four along Route 53.

A car went through a guardrail and down an embankment at Route 53 at Woodfield Road, ABC 7 reported this morning. Other crashes along Route 53 were reported at Northwest Highway, Palatine Road and Algonquin Road in both directions.

Another crash was reported after 6 a.m. on Route 60 by Round Lake, according to NBC5, and one along Lake Street/Route 20 at Glenbrook Boulevard.

Heavy traffic is reported on I-88 eastbound following an accident between Meyers and York roads.

Temperatures are about 20 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year and snowfall is expected to continue through at least 8 a.m., according to weather.com.
