Attend candidate forum for Batavia District 101

Batavia's school board race is heating up. Eight candidates are competing in the April 7 consolidated election for three, 4-year terms on the Batavia Unit District 101 school board.

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Affairs Committee has presented the candidates with five questions that will highlight individual strengths, focus and commitment to the development of the next generation. This candidate forum will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. This forum is free to all who attend.

"The success of our local businesses is directly linked to the quality of talent that comes from our schools," said Holly Deitchman, president and CEO of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce. "Batavia is fortunate to have eight qualified and enthusiastic candidates vying for school board member.

"The Batavia school district has been welcoming of input from the chamber and a strong partnership has developed. We're encouraged by the open dialogue among leaders of our area," Deitchman continued. "We must continue to work together to create programs that will develop students into the workforce that is needed in our community."

During the school board candidate forum, each candidate will be introduced by Joe Kosner, chamber legislative affairs committee chairman. Following the introduction, Kosner will select five prepared questions to present to all eight candidates. The candidates will have two minutes to address each of the five questions.

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce reminds the community that a strong business base is critical to fund city, school and recreational improvements, without additional burden on property taxes. The chamber invites all those interested in the future of Batavia to attend the March 25 event.
