Wade in and look for eggs at the Underwater EGGstravaganza
Egg-hunters on most Easter egg hunts scramble through grass, look behind trees and check around bushes. But the Schaumburg Park District's annual egg hunt, known as the Underwater EGGstravaganza, is an Easter egg hunt with a twist.
"This is not your traditional outdoor egg hunt," said Kathleen Benson, manager of Bock Neighborhood Center and general program supervisor. "Instead, it's an egg hunt at the pool."
The hunting ground is the zero-depth play pool at The Water Works in the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. The event goes from 6 to 8 p.m. April 2.
Egg hunters will be divided into five age groups: two and younger, 3 and 4-year-olds, 5 and 6-year-olds, 7 and 8-year-olds and 9-year-olds and older. Each group will have their own time to hunt. Parents will have the opportunity to assist small children.
"We will release each age group throughout the evening to collect as many eggs as they can," said Benson.
Plastic eggs will bob on the surface of the water. After collection, children may turn them in for goodie bags to take home.
The evening pool party also features other activities.
"If your group is not in the water collecting eggs, you can swim, play games with the DJ, enjoy a snack and make a craft to take home," Benson said.
Children should bring a bathing suit and a basket for egg collecting. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Adults are free.
The fee is $12 for residents and $18 for non-residents. The registration deadline is April 1.
