Woodstock woman dies in car collision with passenger train
WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) - Police say a 19-year-old Woodstock woman killed in a crash with a train apparently tried to stop her car before the collision.
According to authorities, the car Amanda Williams was driving went on the tracks in unincorporated Woodstock and was struck by a Metra train Wednesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woodstock Police Chief Robert Lowen tells WBBM-TV there was one to two inches of snow on the road at the time of the crash, and that there's no indication Williams was trying to beat the train. He says the train crossing is at the bottom of a small incline.
No one on the train was injured. Service was restored later that evening.
The Northwest Herald reports Williams played volleyball at McHenry County College.
