Aurora man faces additional sex charges

Additional sex charges have been filed against an 18-year-old Aurora man already being held on intimidation charges, police said Wednesday.

Authorities said Maxwell Melgar of the 800 block of Lafayette Street was charged with intimidation in late January after threatening to disseminate nude photos of an 18-year-old woman on social media if she did not have sex with him.

Melgar now faces additional charges stemming from similar threats against a different woman, authorities said.

Aurora police said Melgar was charged over the weekend with attempted sexual assault and intimidation after forensic evidence in the original case uncovered a similar crime against a 20-year-old woman.

In both cases, police said, the Aurora women were acquaintances of Melgar and both sent at least one nude photo of themselves to him.

Melgar was arrested at 11 p.m. Jan. 27 near Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue, which is where he told the 18-year-old woman to meet him so they could have sex. When he got there, police were waiting for him.

During a search of Melgar's cellphone, detectives say they found evidence of the crime against the 20-year-old woman.

According to court documents, the 20-year-old woman had sex with Melgar about 15 times and paid him an estimated $500 so he would not share the photo of her on the Internet.

Melgar is being held on $75,000 bail at the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles. His next court date is at 9 a.m. Feb. 25 in Room 313 of the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
