Stevenson hangs on vs. Mundelein

Stevenson's girls basketball team avoided a major upset Wednesday night.

The Patriots, the fourth seed in the Class 4A Palatine sectional, edged No. 13 Mundelein 51-49 in a regional semifinal at Carmel Catholic.

Stevenson (26-4) advanced to Friday night's regional final against No. 5 Buffalo Grove.

During the regular season, Stevenson beat Mundelein by scores of 74-30 and 61-42.

Buffalo Grove 53, Lake Zurich 49: At Carmel, the fifth-seeded Bison survived.

No. 12 Lake Zurich ended its season at 13-16.

Crystal Lake South 47, Grant 46: The fifth-seeded Grant girls basketball team nearly sprung an upset against the Gators, coming up just shy in Class 4A regional semifinal play Wednesday at Grant.

Jasmine Sangster made a pair of 3s and scored a team-high 21 points for the Bulldogs (11-18), who also got 11 from freshman Mallory Harrity.

Crystal Lake South got a game-high 22 points from junior Chanel Fanter and 12 from senior Kianna Clark.

The Gators will meet No. 2 seed Cary-Grove in Friday's regional final.

Antioch 78, Senn 15: At Wauconda, the top-seeded Sequoits breezed in their Class 3A regional opener, as 15 players scored against the No. 17 seed.

Antioch (27-3) welcomed the return of junior guard Alexis Duehr, who had been sidelined since mid-December with a broken leg. Duehr scored 9 points and picked up 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists and 1 blocked shot.

Ashley Reiser scored a team-high 13 points and dished out 7 assists for Antioch, while Carly McCameron added 10 points. Madalyn Murillo and Amy Reiser had 8 points apiece. Erika Gallimore contributed 7 rebounds and 5 points.

Antioch meets St. Viator in Friday's 7 p.m. regional final.

St. Viator 53, Wauconda 40: At Wauconda, the eighth-seeded Lions prevailed.

No. 9 Wauconda (9-15) received 15 points from Katie Rossetti and 10 from Haley Redmann.

Kayne Stanley led St. Viator with 19 points and 4 steals.

Lakes 52, Chicago Northside 41: At Chicago Northside, the seventh-seeded Eagles won the Class 3A regional semifinal.

Lakes will play No. 2 North Chicago for the regional title at 7 p.m. Friday.
