Haas' big 3 helps Hersey win at Maine West

Less than 24 hours after clinching a berth in the Mid-Suburban League boys basketball championship game, Hersey was back on the road Saturday.

And it was a winning path again as they traveled to Des Plaines to win the nonconference matchup 47-46 over Maine West.

Payton Haas hit a 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left to boost the Huskies (16-8) into the lead. He finished with a team-high 17 points.

Zak Cooper added 10 points with 10 rebounds for the Huskies, while Josh Mailloux had 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Matt Acevedo (21 points) and Marion Johnson (10) paced Maine West (6-17), which came up with 22 points in the fourth quarter.

Elk Grove 59, Glenbrook South 51: Isaiah Curiel led the Grenadiers with 18 points (including four 3-pointers in the second half) and Dan Hadler added 14 points along with some key assists and rebounds.

Tyler Ingebrigtsen added 11 points for the winners while Joey Gatziolis had 8 in the balanced offense.

Daniel Jenkins led Glenbrook South with 19 points while Jimmy Martinelli added 11.

Elk Grove led 27-26 at half and 45-39 after three quarters. The Grens were up by 8 to 11 points for most of the fourth quarter as they improved to 16-6 with the nonconference win.

Rolling Meadows 63, Glenbard South 61: The host Mustangs earned a weekend split by taking a nonconference matchup against the visiting Raiders.

Jared Murphy led the way with a game-high 23 points for Rolling Meadows (10-13). Adam Wojck made three 3s and finished with 13 points, and Jack Schoessling had 11.

St. Patrick 63, Conant 55: Jimmy Sotos (15 points), Jordan Hughes (14) and Kyle Bradley (12) each scored in double figures for the host Cougars, but the visiting Shamrocks were able to earn a nonconference victory.
