COD incumbents won't get this vote

I have followed closely the reports in the newspaper about the severance payment that the College of DuPage board approved for Dr. Breuder. I am very disturbed by the lack of communication to the public concerning the reasons for this payment.

It is my understanding that Dr. Breuder had a contract that did not expire until 2019. According to news reports, he indicated that he wished to retire in March 2016.

The impression left with the public was that this was a voluntary retirement. The proposed naming of the college's Homeland Security Center after Dr. Breuder reinforces the impression that he was leaving on good terms and was not being forced out.

Normally, if an employee is not being asked to resign and requests to retire prior to the expiration of his or her contract, no severance pay is required or should be expected.

I, as a taxpayer am greatly disturbed by not only the granting of such a payment but outraged by the size of the payment - $762,868. I can only assume by the board's lack of communicating the reasons for such a payment that they cannot justify it to the taxpayers.

I can assure you that I am going to remember the names of all the current board members that voted in favor of this payment. They certainly will not get my vote in the future because of their blatant disregard and reckless spending of taxpayer contributed funds.
