Redskins hire Matt Cavanaugh as QBs coach after not having 1

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins have hired Matt Cavanaugh as their quarterbacks coach after going without one last season.

The team announced the move Wednesday.

Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy all started games at quarterback for the Redskins in 2014, when they were 4-12 and finished last in the NFC East for the sixth time in seven seasons.

Cavanaugh was the QB coach of the Bears the past two years, working with Jay Cutler, who threw 18 interceptions last season.

Before that, Cavanaugh coached quarterbacks for the Jets from 2009-12. He also has been an offensive coordinator in the NFL, and played 14 seasons for four clubs from 1978-91.
