Backup WR Brent says he's leaving South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina reserve receiver K.J. Brent is leaving the Gamecocks.
Brent said in a Twitter post on Tuesday night he talked to South Carolina's coaches about transferring to find playing opportunities at another school. Brent is a junior who had nine catches for 111 yards last season. He played in every game and started in South Carolina's 24-21 victory over Miami in the Independence Bowl last month.
Brent said in his post that leaving was the best decision for him. He thanked the university for the opportunity to play the past three seasons.
The 6-foot-4 Brent of Waxhaw, North Carolina, is another blow to South Carolina's receiving corps. One-time starter Shaq Roland left the program last month, while regulars Nick Jones and Damiere Byrd were both seniors last season.
